Is fluoride safe?Yes! Fluoride helps to prevent and repair the breakdown of enamel from bacteria and acid. It helps to reduce sensitivity and fight dental caries. Both adults and children can benefit from fluoride treatments. At Maine Tiny Dental we understand that some patients have firm beliefs on fluoride use. Please ask your provider about alternatives to keep your teeth as healthy as you can.

Are dental hygienists allowed to practice without the supervision of a dentist?Yes! In Maine dental hygienists are fortunate to be able to hold a license to practice independently from dentists. They are able to offer preventative care services including routine maintenance, dental sealants, dental radiographs, and non-surgical gum therapy along with many other services to prevent and reduce the risk of dental disease.

Are dental x-rays safe?Yes! Advancements in technology and digital radiography have made dental x-rays a minimal source of radiation. At Maine Tiny Dental we utilize cordless sensors and hand-held dental x-ray units. This means that the amount of radiation is so minimal that your dental provider is able to stand in the room while taking x-rays. Without x-rays we are unable to detect decay, bone loss, or growths in their early stages. By detecting disease early, we are able to often increase preventative measures and avoid costly visits to the dentist.

At what age should I start taking my child to a dental practice for care? The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children can be seen as early as 6 months old, or when your baby's first tooth is coming in. These early preventative visits are great to introduce your child to the dental office and create a fun experience. At these early visits we focus on education and creating a fun environment that encourages young children to have good oral health.
